About Us

Our Purpose

Founded in February 2020, the overriding objective of the Riebeek Valley Ratepayers Association (RVRA) is to promote, support and safeguard the rights and interests of its members.

The RVRA recognises that the Riebeek Valley’s quaint Cape country village charm, its dramatic setting on the slopes of Kasteelberg, its low density, spacious, rural character, and its hospitality and tourism excellence, make the Riebeek Valley a most desirable destination, for residents and visitors alike.

As such, the RVRA ensures that the Riebeek Valley’s residential and lifestyle integrity is protected and that the built and natural environment, character and heritage of the membership area is conserved and enhanced.

Our key focus areas are to:

  • Invite member feedback and suggestions, and address members’ issues, within the terms of our Constitutional mandate.
  • Engage with the Swartland Municipality, and other related authorities, regarding service delivery concerns, rates disputes, spatial development proposals, and heritage issues.
  • Scrutinise applications for property developments and, within the provisions of our Constitutional mandate, represent our members’ interests in challenging such development plans.
  • Communicate relevant Municipality proposals, plans and decisions to our membership via our RVRA website.
  • Ensure that our members have easy electronic access to the Swartland Municipality’s official communications, forms and documentation of relevance to the Riebeek Valley’s ratepayers.
  • Build our membership base to include all ratepayers, so that we become a credible, robust and convincing voice for our members’ interests when engaging with the Municipality.
  • Create broader awareness about key issues facing the Riebeek Valley community

How It Works

The RVRA is a legally recognised Voluntary Association, consisting of its registered members and run by an appointed Committee of 8 who are governed by the terms of its Constitution.

The Committee meets monthly, usually on the second Wednesday of each month, 18:00 to 20:00. Minutes of all Committee meetings are maintained in accordance with good practice, confirmed at each succeeding Committee meeting, and are made available to members on the website before the next Committee meeting.

A general meeting (an AGM) is convened annually, to which all members are invited. The purpose of the AGM is to present, discuss and approve the annual report and financial statements, in addition to electing members to serve on the Committee for the forthcoming year.
